Illustrator
HYOGONOSUKE is a Japanese illustrator and manga artist who debuted at 16 in Weekly Shonen Jump, then spent years as a manga assistant to creators behind Captain Tsubasa and Dragon Quest: Dai no Daiboken. After transitioning to the game industry — working at Yuji Naka's PROPE studio where Pixar and Disney art books reshaped his style — he went freelance in 2017, developing the signature no-outline, mosaic-textured illustration technique that makes his Pokémon TCG cards instantly recognizable.
His connected panoramic card art across the Scarlet & Violet era went viral in 2025, making him the hottest TCG artist in the current community.
Style Note
HYOGONOSUKE creates illustrations without black outlines, using a jagged digital brush instead of sharp lines. He photographs real concrete and asphalt surfaces, then overlays them on his artwork using Photoshop's Overlay blend mode to create his signature blocky, mosaic-like texture. The result is a distinctive color-block aesthetic — dense, warm, almost stained-glass in quality.
