Kagemaru Himeno

Kagemaru Himeno is one of the founding illustrators of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, active since 1996 with 635+ cards — making her one of the most prolific TCG artists in history and the longest-serving female illustrator. Known for her soft watercolor technique with bright subjects against atmospheric backgrounds, she has drawn everything from Base Set staples to modern Illustration Rares across nearly 30 years.

Style Note

Himeno works primarily in watercolor with a distinctive soft, nature-loving aesthetic. Her technique features bright, detailed foreground subjects against softer, atmospheric backgrounds — creating depth and warmth. In her early career, she used a signature white fleck/sparkle effect (now largely phased out). Her Pokémon feel gentle, alive, and at home in natural settings.
