Yuka Morii

Yuka Morii is a Japanese clay modeler and illustrator who has created artwork for the Pokémon Trading Card Game since 2000, making her one of the longest-serving active contributors. She hand-sculpts Pokémon figures from clay and photographs them against real-world backdrops or arranged dioramas — a technique unique among all TCG illustrators.

A Tokyo Zokei University graduate and award-winning clay artist (1996 Tokyo TV Clay Modelling Championship), Morii's career spans Fuji TV weather graphics, Tokyo subway mascot design, Nescafé campaigns, published travel books about international supermarkets, and over 210 Pokémon cards across 25 years.

Style Note

Morii sculpts hand-made clay Pokémon figures and photographs them in miniature dioramas or real-world settings, producing card art with a distinctive 3D tactile quality unlike any other TCG illustrator. Her figures have a charming, slightly uncanny aesthetic she describes as "cuteness and creepiness at the same time" — inspired by the British TV character Mr. Blobby and Monty Python.
