Illustrator
Yuu Nishida is a self-taught Japanese illustrator from rural Akita Prefecture who won the first-ever Pokémon TCG Illustration Grand Prix in 2019, beating 5,342 other entries with a Gardevoir painting that judges praised for its warmth. A part-time high school art teacher who learned illustration through correspondence courses, she became a freelance artist in 2017 and was recruited as an official TCG illustrator after her Grand Prix victory.
Style Note
Nishida's style radiates warmth — vivid but gentle palettes, detailed botanical elements, and emotionally expressive characters. She specialises in Trainer cards (21 of 66 API cards are Trainers — an unusually high 32%), particularly female character Secret Rares and Special Illustration Rares. Her stated goal is illustrations that fill the viewer with warmth.
